Love Smithy takes the view that a lasting relationship is made rather than found, and that the making is a skill like any other: learnable, improvable, and mostly a matter of ordinary daily practice rather than grand gesture.
Most advice on the subject falls into two piles. One is sentimental and tells you nothing you can act on. The other is clinical and reads like a manual. Neither is much use at eleven at night when a conversation has gone wrong for the third time this month.
This site aims for the useful middle: what is actually known about how couples repair an argument, how attention gets withdrawn without anyone deciding to withdraw it, how habits form, and what the difference is between a problem to be solved and a difference to be lived with.
It will also say plainly when something is beyond the reach of an article, and where to go instead.
